A WW2 Bomber, a Pin-Up, and a Pilot

You know how you get better at telling a story the more you tell it?
3

I have been on substack for a couple of months now and in that short time, it feels like it went from a writing-focused location (with some podcasters sprinkled in) to a full-blown emerging social media destination.

Somehow without seeming to lose its roots of supporting independent creators who want a closer tie to their audience.

I always knew Substack as a “newsletter site” that was free to use and had a straightforward monetization method. Substack only makes money if the creator does. No upfront charges.

As a small but growing creator…that is perfect. Thank you to those who support us.

The History Road Trip is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.

Video to Podcast to Newsletter?

The Walk with History video you see at the top of this post is a peek into Jenn’s life (my wife) and the amazing things she has done up until today. The full video shows her interviewing the crew of a B-25 Mitchell and eventually getting to sit in the nose for take-off…a once in a lifetime experience.

The B-25 is a WW2 bomber aircraft that was produced more than any other aircraft during the war. It was modified in many different ways and used by numerous allied countries.

It’s an amazing aircraft, and we have received so many comments from viewers talking about how it is their favorite aircraft.

In the podcast

We go further in-depth and talk about the infamous Doolittle Raid. This raid was a direct response to the attack on Pearl Harbour and demonstrated how America could rapidly adapt to wartime needs.

The Army Air Force modified the B-25 by stripping everything possible off of it (including the guns) so that it could launch off an aircraft carrier with enough fuel to strike Imperial Japan.

Those pilots could not fly back…but crash-landed in places like China, and Russia, or some were even captured by the Japanese.

skip around the above WW2 film…pretty neat

In this newsletter…

This newsletter is a chance for me to share these historical adventures one more time and in my own tone of voice.

Normally by the time I am writing here, I have told these stories a few times; either by editing a video (very time-intensive) or recording and editing the podcast.

You know how you get better at telling a story the more you tell it?

That is what you get on The History Road Trip.

Have you ever heard of “Skip Bombing”?

If you want to learn more about what skip bombing is…you’ll enjoy this Talk with History podcast episode.

The Best Bits

These are the best bits of Walk with History and Talk with History - distilled into this newsletter. I truly enjoy sharing our travels, history lessons, and gems of knowledge we learn along the way.

If you enjoy this newsletter…please share it. It’s as simple as forwarding to someone who loves traveling, WW2 history, Civil War history, or any history for that matter.

And remember…Chuck Norris can slam a revolving door.
